Railroad rental
Our railroad is available for rental by film/television/commercial production companies. The Sierra Northern strives for a secure environment ensuring continuity and stability for on-location shooting. We offer the flexibility necessary for successful projects. Safety is paramount with us. There will be no passing trains during filming. Our employees have experience working with the industry.
Passenger cars
Sierra Northern has a variety of both streamlined and heavyweight passenger cars to give a prototypical look to any era from the 1920’s to the present. Our streamlined cars represent a variety of equipment including coaches, a diner, and a sleeping car. Our heavyweight equipment is typical of what could be found anywhere in North America.
Freight cars
Like our passenger car fleet, our freight car roster spans every era in the 20th and 21st century. The collection includes flat cars, refrigerator cars, tank cars, hopper cars, and boxcars.
Steam locomotive
Yes, we have one in southern California and another in the northern part of the state. The first is a 2-8-0 Consolidation type engine that originally ran on the Duluth & Northeastern Railroad. It’s suitable for the early 1900s-1950s. A medium-sized locomotive, it’s appropriate for a variety of scenarios as a freight or passenger engine. The other is a 2-8-2 that was used in the logging industry.
Diesel locomotives
Sierra Northern has a selection of diesel locomotives suitable for every passenger train in any era from the 1940s to the modern day. The equipment does equally well hauling freight. The modern diesels are the latest and most efficient technology.
Stations & depots
We have a variety of train stations of various sizes, configurations, and conditions – including one built especially for movie/TV/commercial use! They are at Santa Paula, Saticoy, Fillmore, and Piru.
Rail maintenance equipment
If your needs include shooting in a railroad yard, we have a variety of mechanical devices used by railroads everywhere to keep track in good condition.
